Course Overview

Can students learn how to create music from everyday objects?

With no prior musical knowledge required this unconventional approach to music production will walk students through the creative process of music making and instrument building.

The first part will focus on the digital aspect related to performance and music composition. We will uncover the uses and techniques related to music technology, whilst also becoming aware of different hardware and software applications that are used in the professional music industry. We will unlock imagination and creativity to compose our own musical compositions using sounds that could be made from any casual environment- even from your own home!

During the second course we will focus on instrument making, where students will gain basic knowledge on the different instrument families available, their evolution timeline and their use in the 21st century. Eventually, by end of this course we will build our own instrument using resources that are mainly recyclable and easily accessible.

To wrap it all up – on a high note, we will collectively work towards creating a performance using each of our self-built instruments. The performance will then be recorded using the different composition techniques and skills learnt during the first part of this course.

Overall Learning Objectives:

Students will be able to:
 Perform different rhythms using both standard and graphic notation.
 Identify and use basic music technology applications.
 Compose a piece using identifiable sounds from the environment.
 Applying music to a video.
 Gain basic knowledge regarding music instrument families.
 Build an instrument using recyclable resources.
 Record a performance using their own built instruments.

InnovativeKids Malta

InnovativeKids by AK Malta was conceived as an idea to promote INNOVATION and CREATIVITY through inter-disciplinary learning experiences aimed at 21st century knowledge and skills.

⭐ MULTIDISCIPLINARY

In today and tomorrow’s world students require multidomain knowledge and skills. We break the mould of teaching by subject. Through our project-based system students are able to learn mathemathics, literacy and history through the arts. They are able to mix knowledge from different domains to come up with a creative solution or outcome.

⭐ ORGANIC LEARNING

Our competence-oriented approach allows students to learn through their own mistakes, reflect and improve. It allows students the space and time for errors and correction. A system which aims to reshape how students portray Failure.

⭐ INTEREST DRIVEN

Motivation like in anything else in life is a key aspect in a child’s learning experience. When learning is joyful and desirable, students are hungry to learn on their own, without outside persuasion
