The Beginner Art Program is divided into 2 main courses: 1st the Fundamentals to Realist Drawing course in pencils and charcoal and secondly the Watercolour painting course, followed with 2 top-up specialization workshops in Pen and Watercolour and Landscape Painting respectively.
The beginner program is designed to supply the student with a complete learning experience of representational art. It also supplies the beginner student with the technical foundations of drawing and painting. With the whole culmination of work resulting in a versatile art portfolio.

The Art course for beginners is specifically designed for the busy adult learner who wants to obtain confidence and build a versatile portfolio using various media and techniques.
With the benefit of small-sized classes individual attention and guidance is provided all throughout the course, as per the student’s, performance level.
Lessons are very easy-to-follow yet challenging enough to keep you engaged and motivated enough to get you continually progressing.

Meet the Tutor
Kelsey May Connor | B.A. (Hons) Fine Arts
Kelsey, is a professional fine artist from Senglea. She has been studying art form a very young age under many master artists.
Throughout her academic studies she has devoted most of her time delving in the studies of Representational and Surrealism Art at the Malta Institute of Fine Arts. Following her Honours in Fine Arts she continued to delve deeper in methods of the Classical Masters in Drawing and Painting.
Despite her young age, Kelsey has been involved in many artistic projects both commercially and for private clients. She has been most recently renowned for her quick narration sketches on Kelma Kuljum on TVM and for the design of the Enemalta anniversary monument in Marsa.

Duration: 24 total hours // 12 sessions 1x per week
Top-up Workshop: Pen and Watercolour
This creative workshop in Ink and Watercolour brings into focus a mixed media approach, intertwining 2 fundamental techniques: Pen and Watercolour.
During this workshop students will be introduced to the precision of the calligraphy pen and ink versus the fluidity and vibrancy of the watercolour range. Inspired by the details of the traditional etching process, we will be reflecting on the tonality that can be achieved by the use of line to create a highly detailed masterpiece.
The workshop is structured into 3 parts using 3 different techniques which will focus on creating technical detail and textures, fluidity in colour and black ink, and spontaneity of direct ink effect.
Duration: 8 total hours // 4 sessions 1x per week
Top-up Workshop: Watercolour Landscape Painting (En Plein Air)
With natural environment as our backdrop, the watercolour landscape painting workshop aims to bring students to one of Malta’s most picturesque and beautiful locations for a day of painting from location.
During this day-workshop students learn to observe and record directly from nature (en plein air), and reproduce the landscape’s aerial perspective, natural rhythms, colour values and mood through the quick yet vibrant medium of watercolour.
Duration: 10 total hours // 3 sessions 1x per week
