Part/ Cycle 2: Classical Oil Painting Programme

Using first a very limited grisaille palette, students will be introduced to the sophisticated medium of Oils. Values, Temperature control, atmosphere and hierarchies in light effect will be introduced as additions to lessons in the foundations of drawing.

Colour is introduced in an easy and controlled manner. This palette constituted of Titanium white, ivory black, English red, yellow ochre
and raw umber is key to understanding how to emulate still life colours and skin tones. From this the student can easily begin to experiment further and create a personal palette to use with a learned eye for temperatures and values with colour.
