Course Overview
Can students learn how to create music from everyday objects?
With no prior musical knowledge required this unconventional approach to music production will walk students through the creative process of music making and instrument building.
The first part will focus on the digital aspect related to performance and music composition. We will uncover the uses and techniques related to music technology, whilst also becoming aware of different hardware and software applications that are used in the professional music industry. We will unlock imagination and creativity to compose our own musical compositions using sounds that could be made from any casual environment- even from your own home!
During the second course we will focus on instrument making, where students will gain basic knowledge on the different instrument families available, their evolution timeline and their use in the 21st century. Eventually, by end of this course we will build our own instrument using resources that are mainly recyclable and easily accessible.
To wrap it all up – on a high note, we will collectively work towards creating a performance using each of our self-built instruments. The performance will then be recorded using the different composition techniques and skills learnt during the first part of this course.
