Course Overview
This course is specifically designed for adults with little to no prior knowledge in bookbinding. During this course, you will learn several simple hand-sewn book structures perfect for making pocket notebooks, journals, sketchbooks, and more. Historical notes and technical tips will be also given according to the object we will be creating each session.
Particular attention will be given to the final outcomes such as finished objects based on the personal skills, interests and attitudes of each student.
What will you Learn?
The goals of the course are:
- Acquire knowledge of the different tools, materials and basic elements
- Create different types of different hand-sewn books and protective enclosures for documents
- Develop a your 1st personal Bookbinding portfolio
We will also discuss theory, technique and process through lectures. Theoretical notes will also be provided as an integral part of the course.
Rebecca Ranieri, is a professional artist and an Italian paper and book conservator by profession.
Native of Parma- Italy, Rebecca showed interest for art from a very young age. After dabbling in art school, she later pursued her professional studies in paper and photography Conservation where she graduated from the Academy of Fine Art in Bologna. Rebecca specialized in subjects such as etching, librarianship, bookbinding, paleography and calligraphy.
Since falling in love with – and in! Malta in 2017, she continued working as a paper conservator while fulfilling her passion for art and teaching.
Amidst the recent challenging period of the pandemic Rebecca rediscovered the claim for making art during lockdowns. The obligation to spend more time indoor allowed her to get back to her canvas in full swing! She chose to add colour and share her sparkly talents with others. She has since launched several art exhibitions across different art spaces in Malta and Gozo.
Besides her love for art and anything creative she most passionate about sharing her knowledge with others, but most in particular those with the will to get their hands dirty and their creative brains sparking!
